Aims for the sky and flies high.
In addition to being a top-shelf offering from the illustrious Plasencia brand, Alma Del Cielo (Soul of the sky) comes complete with one of the best feel-good stories I’ve heard in the cigar biz. Long story short, Nestor Plasencia’s grandmother used to own the farm (of the same name), before having to sell it in 1961. At the time, it was used for growing coffee and raising cattle. Positioned 3,500 feet above sea level, the soil was incredibly rich, and the nights cooler than the surrounding areas. Loving not only the land, but the memories made there, the family bought it back in 1998. Leveraging the unique soil and temperature, Nestor Plasencia planted a tobacco crop there. It flourished, and is now baked into each Alma Del Cielo cigar.
If that doesn’t make you smile, the cigar itself surely will. A Nicaraguan puro, this premium specimen catches your eye with a sleek, silky Jalapa wrapper. Tucked just beneath are long-fillers that are dense, rich and balanced, that marry perfectly with the high-altitude tobacco. The end result is a medium-bodied treat that delivers waves of flavor and incredible balance. Creamy sweetness, reminiscent of honey, weaves in between hints of bread, baking spices, orange zest, and nuts. Add in the hexagonal press and crisp blue bands, and you’ve got a handmade that stands out in a sea of other premium options.
